Quick Server Setup for Insurgency Server

This setup guide is written specifically for Insurgency Dedicated server installations on a machine running on the a Windows operating system installation. Though the same principles and file names and structures are similar, if not the same. This guide does not include how to install an Insurgency (2014) server on Linux and the provided MetaMod/SourceMod installations will not function on Linux, as these are built for Windows installations only.

Note for Users Looking to Deploy a Linux Server:

If you are looking to install a Linux based version of the Insurgency dedicated server, I would recommend browsing over to LinuxGSM's Insurgency web page. You can apply the Insurgency base game configuration files (mapcycle_workshop.txt, subscribed_file_ids.txt, cfg/server.cfg, etc.) to your Linux installation, but you will need to obtain a working version of MetaMod and SourceMod for Linux and then recompile the script(s) from the scripting folder in the provided SourceMod installations to your Linux installation.

Required Before Starting

The following are required before you can start:

  • A computer/server running at least Windows 7 / Windows Server 2008 R2 or greater, as long as it is Windows. As stated earlier, the earlier compatible versions of these Windows products will work, but are not recommended due to the lack of Microsoft provided updates and patches for security vulnerabilities.
  • The access and knowledge to port forward on your router. You will need the ability to port forward on your router if you are seeking to make a game accessible from outside your local (home) network (LAN.)

Getting Started

1) Launch Insurgency, Open Console

Start up Insurgency and open console, by clicking the ~ button by default.
